have you tried pumice (2-8mm size)? in my experience the lecca doesnt seem to absorb anything, with the pores being sealed. may not matter but the pumice does retain some moisture.

Hello Nora. At my country there is not that product of fertilizer. But there is a and b fertilizer for vegetable. Is it ok to use them for indoor tropical plants?

Any recommendations if we can’t get growth technology? I currently have an indoor fertilizer by Jacks and superthrive foliage pro.

How about mixing moss and the fiber? How the moss disintegrate if it gets too dry?

Thank you for this video! I just transplanted two alocasias last week into leca after watching your "absolute beginner's playlist. My jacklyn didn't have roots and she's losing the one leaf she had (shock?). Can I leave her there and just keep filling the resevoir? The Bisma had a lot of roots. I didn't trim them but because I was worried about the rot, did the wick system. She had 5 leaves, one is tipped over now. But I feel ok about that. I'm so nervous about this journey. I've been working with plants for about 3 years. The alocasias just never thrived. I've killed several and I just keep buying them. I'd heard leca was a good option so here we are. I am lucky! I am a fresh water sting ray breeder. They produce a lot of waste but my massive filtration changes all waste to nitrates which plants love. I never have to use nutrient solution. The water in my sting ray tubs are always at PH of 6. I have used this water to all plants in soil and clay balls. They are all doing very well. I also have a Kangen Machine that makes drinking water from alkaline to PH 6 water and water depending on my choice. I have options. PH 6 water is considered beauty water that I can wash my face with. Bet you don’t know this one. lol!

Here’s my question… and I can’t find the answer anywhere lol.. can I grow directly in leca as I would in normal potting soil… no reservoir or anything? I live in a very rainy and humid area and I’ve tried potting soil, pure pumice, pure perlite and they all stay wet for too long so I thought maybe I could try leca?

Very interesting....given this presentation, I have a question. My plants are well established. We are going on vacation for 8 days. What is the lesser of all evils? Topping off my cache pots very high with water so they are fed for 8 days.....OR, using the same amount of water, and having them go 2 days in dryness????

I bought my first ghost just the other day. But most of what I’ve researched said that the white leaves would disappear. You have proved that wrong with your gorgeous specimen. I have my leca plants outside in the summer (northeastern US) and I occasionally find mosquito larvae in the reservoirs. I just dump the water out on the sidewalk when I do a water change. I haven’t noticed more mosquitos than usual in my yard.

I first came across this channel just as I was contemplating buying my first houseplant. Stupidly(?) that was an expensive Monstera Thai Constellation and I went full on in LECA as I liked the idea of a soil free plant hobby. 50+ plants later and 95% of all plantings have been successful. Just go for it. Throw yourself into it. It’s not as difficult as you think it’s going to be.

Nora I have a Ficus Benjamina that is about 6ft tall and well established. It's potting mix is full of ants so it desperately needs repotting. Would a transition to Leca likely be successful with such a mature plant?

This is good to know. I am still in the early stages of learning to grow in Leca. All my plants have not grown roots out of their pots. When they do, I can be confident they are happy and healthy. Thanks again for great growing advice.

Ive switched from broners soap to a surfactant. Be extremely careful with broners soap as it will burn your plants.

I have five beautiful plants. I can’t stand the gnats! My daughter passed away and I just don’t want the plants to die. They are all Peace Lillies. I have not given them nutrition! Yet. They are three months old. I used to love plants but after I moved I gave them away when I move. Now I have new plants and I love them but the gnats I don’t know what to do. I have a bug light (2) but that’s not getting rid of them fast enough. Help!!!!

So far my experience with Leca/semi hydro was a completely failure. Even after watching so many videos on UA-cam in this topic, soaked theory like a sponge, tried and failed. I’m 30 min behind on your video, I hope I learn something new and try again without ending with completely rooted roots or mould on the top of leca. Because as many people explain that it’s easier than soil, for me it’s totally opposite 😂

I love this video. I learned so much. It is the most helpful video on Leca I have found. It does however make me miss the days that we would buy Dollar tree soil and put the plant in a way too big pot in a very dark corner and say "Good luck! See you in a month" (If I remember to water you) 😅
